Beats made by the clicks

By rapirap

Not so long ago I was downloading beats crafted by various producers. My main source was SoundClick.com where most musicians compete with their works. Although not well known in the music scenes, the beats I find there are awesome. They’ve got complete, coherent patterns. Then I saw videos from YouTube showing how the generic software, Fruity Loops, can make the most complicated rhythmic beats. Some use Acid Pro but I think Fruity Loops is the right digital audio workstation for aspiring musicians.

During the first trials I ended up creating nothing but noise but as I continued, my beats started to have well-arranged flows. Most beat makers start with the drums first but I usually create the strings and piano rhythm as initial segments. Next I put the hooks then arrange drum and snare patterns depending on how they will fit to the flow. So mostly the results of my experiments are repetitive pop beats because I start with the rhythm first. Whereas if I lay out the drums, the deep and sick bass kicks, I can produce the right hip hop beat. There are a lot of techniques in order to make a well-composed audio track. It’s not the tool that we use that determines how amazing our craft is. It’s how we exploit it. Or in Fruity Loops, it’s how you click the right pattern.
