Afro Samurai: A Hair-Curling Anime

The Afro Samurai plot mainly revolves around the desire for vengeance and incidentally, to become the world’s number one fighter. The series is set in an alternate feudal Japan with futuristic leanings where cyborgs, machine guns and RPGs are pitted against ‘super’natural skill and the katana. With the protagonist carving a bloody path to challenge the Number One warrior of the world and avenge a slain father, this is an anime with plenty of violence to go around and with a bit of sex on the side.

This is a series created with adult viewers in mind. The action is amazingly intense and bloody. The sight of heads and various limbs flying every which way is the norm during fight sequences so this series is not for the faint of heart.

Produced by Japanese anime studio GONZO and directed by Fuminori Kizaki, Afro Samurai is a 5-episode anime series whose main character, Afro, is voiced by American actor Samuel L. Jackson. This is definitely a record for GONZO considering that the cost of each episode is estimated to be at one million dollars. Afro Samurai is a must-see for Samurai X and Basilisk fans.
