The 10 Manliest ‘Moving On’ Songs

Perhaps all of us will have to contend with concept of ‘moving on’ after suffering a major heartbreak. And perhaps all of us have dreaded this phase of the healing process, especially if we thought we have found the ‘One’. Pressing the reset button and starting off from a clean slate again was way out of our minds if we have experienced the bliss of a wonderful, perfect relationship. Perfect. Now that is the keyword here. How can you get over perfection? Nothing is perfect, some would say. There are those who would say that everything will be okay as soon as the storm would clear up. But then, most of us hopeless romantics prefer to weather out the storm rather than abandoning ship, even if our partners have already jumped overboard. We fool ourselves, saying there are still flames, when in reality; all that is left are dying embers. Truth of the matter is, even if we spot a breakup from a mile away when the relationship is going downhill, we still feel the shocks and the jolts when it finally hits.

Each of us has its own way of dealing with the ‘stuff in the basement’, whether its getting drunk and start a brawl at your favorite bar and have you banned for life (author’s personal favorite) or excel in your endeavors (highly unlikely). Eventually, we will leave the excess baggage behind and turn a new leaf. How long the moving on will take varies independently. So for those who have moved on, congratulations are in order. Moving on is never easy. But you made it through. So in retrospect, I have listed the 10 manliest ‘moving on’ songs for the boys.

1. Apologize by OneRepublic. Never mind Timbaland. This a real hit for the man who has taken charge after a break up. Although the lyrics implies the guy in the song might have taken the jump to the afterlife.

2. The Heart of the Matter by Don Henley and the Eagles. A very moving song about a guy who is obviously still in love with former lady love but decided to call it quits. Nothing is manlier than this.

3. You Don’t Love Me Anymore by Weird Al Yankovic. If you are looking to moving on with some comic relief, Weird Al is your go-to guy. Moving on has never been this fun… sniff… sniff.

4. I Think God Can Explain by the Splendor. Believe in fate? Destiny? Divine Intervention? Providence? Didn’t pray hard enough? If you do, then this is the song for you. Just don’t forget to say your prayers when you go hunting ‘em foxes again.

5. You and I Both by Jason Mraz. If you are raising your eyebrows on this one, it is perfectly understandable. But Mraz is all about letting go in this song. The reason why it made the cut.

6. Fuck It by Eamon. If you need a moving on song with some hate and disgust on the airwaves, Eamon definitely fills that need. Much better if you get a good sound system and big boom boxes.

7. I’m Learning Part 2 by the Boyzone. Oh please. Don’t tell me you didn’t love them? Who didn’t? Anyway, for the hopeless romantics out there, this song has the positive attitude every guy needs to heal and, well, move on.

8. 1000 Times Goodbye by Megadeth. Who ever said metal is not emotional? Megadeth really puts fire into a guy with this song. Good guitar riffs too.

9. Bye Bye Bye by N’Sync. The title is pretty much self explanatory.

10. One Last Cry by Brian McKnight. We do have this thing for one last hurrah, right?
