35-46 frames per second at this level of eye-candy. Not bad for a 4-year old piece of junk. It still astounds me why some PC owners don’t tweak their systems even if you show them how.

So read my YM message yesterday.

Do you know that you may not be getting the most out of that rig you purchased? Every month there are official software being put out by the companies that made some of the components of your PC. Good examples of these are the two service Packs that Microsoft has developed for Windows XP.

However, what may be of help to gamers the most is the regular updates churned out by Nvidia and AMD-ATI to their video card drivers, which are software that without which, the video cards installed in your PC won’t work. (For beginners, think of them as fuel for automobiles — with your video cards as the automobiles in this simple analogy.)

What is the advantage of using these new updates?

Performance.

You’d be surprised by how much smoother your gameplay will be when you first change video drivers. (Succeeding replacements will still reap you performance benefits albeit these will give you more subtle improvements that will be nonetheless felt.) My cousins and friends run gaming cafes. Allow me to share screenshots of their well-maintained rigs.

An aging Pentium 4 can definitely handle bloom and other eye-candy with even simple tweaks like regularly upgrading your video drivers. Here a Blood Eagle who’s holding a plasma burner scans the ground below for enemy movement.

(You can search the Internet about how to change your video drivers. That process, although simple, will take up substantial space in this blog and so has been left out.)
