True Love: Does it really exist?
In today’s culture, love has many definitions, ideals and concepts. Whether it’s coming from a literature icon like Shakespeare, or from the musicians or composers, all in all, everything that we have come to know and learn about love have been influenced by the media, or famous icons of the past and present.
With the influence, people begin to wonder, does true love like what was written in the books or seen in the movies or shows actually exist? Does true love have a happy ending as told in fairy tales and story books? Others are optimistic, while others are pessimistic. How about you? Do you believe in true love?
In my personal opinion, and coming out from a natural romantic, I believe that love is true when both people are in love for who they are and for who they are not. For what they have and for what they don’t have. For their perfections and their flaws. Such acceptance is hard to come by but if a person does actually love a person for everything that I have mentioned, then I believe that the love between them is true. A couple with nothing to hide from each other is the perfect couple. Why perfect? Because the foundation of a successful relationship is trust and honesty. Love cannot exist when one is missing. Love cannot survive if one of the foundation is in ruins. The demise of a relationship starts with the demise of one of the foundations. Why trust? Why honesty?
Trust: Lack of trust breeds jealousy. Jealousy breeds hatred. If you cannot trust your partner well enough to be in the company of others, then sooner or later you’re relationship is bound to end.
Honesty: Secrets are very deadly in a relationship. Very very deadly. Secrets hinder you from being completely honest and thus you or your partner is not telling you who he or she really is. How can you love your partner when you can’t even love yourself for your flaws and imperfections?
Still, with a lot of variables influencing the definition of true love, mine is but a fraction of one of many definitions made by literary icons and others before me.
You’re so right about trust and honesty. Once a lie begins, it erodes and eventually rots everything else… it’s amazing how destructive an “innocent” lie can be.
It’s wonderful you believe in true love. What about love at first sight?
“All in all, everything that we have come to know and learn about love have been influenced by the media or famous icons of past and present.”
This is a very compelling statement about love in the 21st century.
