Voltron is in The Works
Another great news for people who still have the hangover of 1980’s animation! The TV cartoon hit Voltron: Defender of the Universe is finally in the works to have its own film adaptation. A lot of people (adults, male adults, mind you) have been talking about the prospect of having the 5 Lion robots on the big screen since 2005 when news broke out about producer Mark Gordon collaborating with other people to make a Voltron movie.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a huge hit during the 1980s. It is about five different individuals who are trained to pilot 5 giant mechanical lions that are designed to protect the Earth from alien invaders. These 5 lions connect together to form Voltron when facing an even greater threat that cannot be stopped when they are working separately.
Gordon announced in 2006 that the script was completed. However, monetary problems arose during the negotiations, which derailed the production of the Voltron movie. The box-office success of The Transformers in 2007 ignited the interests in producing the Voltron film using Gordon’s script. On August 18, 2008, Relativity Media and New Regency announced to produce and finance the Voltron movie despite budget constrictions.
In the Voltron movie, 5 individuals banded together after surviving an alien attack in New York City and end up finding and piloting the 5 lions.
Just the thought of it got me excited to the bones.
